Option #7 A One Way Ticket Out Of Iraq
Submitted by Colin Reimer of Utsunomiya, Japan
$500,000,000,000.00
divided by the Population of Iraq approximately 26,074,906 people
works out to roughly $19,175.52 per person. The US Government
could have offered any person willing to leave Iraq $19,175.52
with a promise of a permanent residence to any of the G8 countries.
(Assuming the rest of the G8 countries would go alone with my
plan.) For a family of 5, this would work out to roughly $95,877.60.
With this money, they could have bought a new car and put a nice
down payment on a house in their country of choice.
With
the people who chose to stay, assuming that at least half of the
Iraqi people would be unwilling to leave their home country, America
could have spent the other $19,175.52 per person by hosting National
Sand Castle Building Contests daily in Iraq, with a first prize
of $19,175.52. They would have enough money to have over 100 different
contests in various parts of Iraq every single day for lets see,
357 years. (give or take) I am sure that the people of Iraq would
build some pretty amazing sand castles and eventually would get
tired of building sand castles and start rebuilding their country.
After all, every single empire has crumbled in time and a good
357 years should be enough time for the good people of Iraq to
sort out their differences. With half of the countries population
out of harms way and becoming productive members of their communities,
I am sure the world would be a much better place to live. ...And
lets not forget to thank America for that 500,000,000,000 Bucks.
