Option
#14: Option #14: Contiguous Borders: Bribe British Columbia
and the Yukon to join the United States
by Juliet Peters of Fairbanks, USA
According the Canadian government there are 4,078.4 Million British
Columbians and just 30,000 Yukoners (The little triangle area
above British Columbia). For 500 Billion dollars, we could offer
each person in these areas $122,000 US to join the United States.
Given 2.2 people per family plus an exchange rate of 1.2 (the
Canadian dollar is worth less) this would be $325,000 Canadian
dollars per family.
Alaska would no longer be outside of the main part of America
and we could also be able to protect the western coast better,
since Canadians don't have much of a miliary. Canadians are not
as patriotic so they would be willing to succeed and join the
United States. There likely would not be a war over this since
Canada is democratic and their French Province has almost succeeded
without anybody talking about a civil war.
The only down side is that the map would look funny, but then
I'm sure we'd get use to it. We could call the USA "The Big
Dipper". Who knows, maybe if the Iraq war costs 1 Trillion,
we could have bought Alberta (lots of oil and the most USA loving
province in Canada) and the North West Territories.
